A place of musings.

A place of musings.

I slowly got less and less of an idea of what I was doing as it went.

Her movements were quick. She slid her upper body across the table, resting her chin in her hands and leaning against her elbows as she tossed a flirty grin at the blonde. Said blonde looked up unimpressed before looking back down at the book he was reading. The girl chewed her lip for a moment before shifting her weight to lean on only on hand and the other arm laid across the table and against her chest as she played with the edges of the pages.

“Well, hey there! Fancy meeting you here!” she said loudly, her flirty grin back. The blonde slammed the book shut and she quickly withdrew her fingers with a sharp gasp.

“Amelia, please. We’re in public. Please, act decent for once. Don’t give me that look. I refuse to react to it. Leave me alone, I’m trying to read,” the blonde scolded, glaring up at the tall female. Amelia was pouting at the rejection but silently sat on the bench across from the male.

“Ugh, Artie. You are so boring. Why are you reading? It’s lunchtime! You should be eating! Look, I’ll even let you have some of my fries!” she said, gesturing the the forgotten Styrofoam tray to her right. On it was a hotdog wrapped in tinfoil and piled high with fries. Arthur guessed the girl hadn’t had the chance to go to the vending machine and get more snacks and candy and a soda. Damn, that woman could eat.  He rolled his eyes and returned back to his book, grumbling about a lost page.

“No thank you. You can leave now,” he said curtly as Amelia took a seat. She laughed in response as if he had just told the funniest joke and started shoving fries into her mouth. Okay, maybe no literally but Arthur found amusement in the thought of her choking on her believed food.

“Hey! What are you laughing at?! Is there something on my face?!” Amelia asked, stealing a napkin from the Turkish senior who was sitting a little ways down. The guy looked like he was going to say something but decided it wasn’t worth it and went back to his conversation with a sleepy female. Amelia quickly wiped off her clean face and stared at Arthur with wide eyes, searching for an answer.

Arthur paused and stared back before shaking his head and clearing his throat.

“No. You just look stupid. Now, I gotta go… I have… a test to make up… or something…” he finished lamely and got up quickly and was walking briskly away before Amelia could protest. When he was out of the cafeteria, she glared down at her fries and started to angrily pick at them.

“Stupid, confusing bastard.”
